Bruising:– Bruises can heal in a few weeks. In a car accident, the seat belt may result in bruises while protecting you from more serious injuries. Monitor your bruises as they may be a sign of something else. The severity and depth of some bruises can even reach the bone. A bruise may indicate a more serious injury if the following symptoms are present :

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Swelling or pain
  • Numbness or weakness
  • A racing pulse, fever
  • Loss of motion especially in the legs
  • Headaches or vision issues
  • Blood in the urine
  • Condition is not improving

Auto Injuries

Fractures and broken bones:– In auto accidents, broken legs, ribs, arms, ankles, and wrists are common injuries. Bone fractures and breaks may not always be apparent right away after an accident. Only later discomfort and other issues can warn you. Seat belts can cause chest injuries and broken ribs.

Neck Injuries:– The muscles, tendons, cartilage, and other soft tissues of the neck can become injured when the body is jarred. Fast and forward movement of the neck can result in whiplash. Whiplash or other damage can cause months to heal or even a lifetime of pain, even though it’s not always obvious. Whiplash is a common injury and is caused by rear-end collisions. It often heals in a few weeks. With or without a seatbelt, speeds as low as 15 mph may result in whiplash.

Neck pain and stiffness, headaches, tingling, numbness, fatigue, dizziness, and shoulder, upper back, or arm pain are signs of whiplash. Other symptoms are memory issues, blurry vision, tinnitus, difficulty concentrating, depression, and irritability.

Wrist and hand injuries:– Car accidents commonly result in distal radius fractures or broken wrists. Depending on how severe the fracture is, this type of injury may require surgery.

Back injuries:– Back injuries are a common result of car accidents since our body and spine are not designed to sustain strong impact. Back injuries may not appear right away after an injury. A serious back injury can cause severe, long-lasting pain and disability.

Spinal cord injuries:– Spinal cord injuries can result from the torque and impact of a crash on the body. A spinal cord injury can cause partial or complete paralysis below the level of the injury.

Lower back pain from a car accident

Internal injuries:– Internal organ damage may occur when a crash forces the body into an object or when flying debris hits the body. Emergency medical treatment is needed for internal bleeding caused by this kind of damage.

Knee injuries:– Knees can be hurt in auto accidents by smashing into any part of the car, which can result in bruises or fractures. The meniscus or cartilage in the knee may rupture if the knee is suddenly bent or twisted in a collision.

Shoulder injuries:– In a car accident, bracing the hands against the steering wheel or dashboard might lead to shoulder injuries from absorbing force. As a result of the collision, the shoulder locks in position and receives excessive force.

Soft tissue injuries:– Soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains, bruising, and other damage to muscles, tendons, and ligaments are prevalent in car accidents.

Brain injuries:– Traumatic brain injury, which occurs when the brain is harmed by a blow to the head or a piercing injury, is most common in car accidents.
